Jadhav states that the size zero trend went viral after she flaunted her skinny body, ready to wear the smallest of wardrobe sizes with ease. Girls across the country dreamed of having as size zero body, models had to raise their weight standards to a new low and everything just went berserk, thanks to the size zero craze. Dr Vinay Jadhav states that size zero is a shameful form for the body, it looks closely anorexic, making the face look pale and weak. Is this the kind of beauty preferred over robust, athletic and healthy women?If yes, then is the world doomed? If no, then why do women subject themselves to something so horrific?

The size zero figure 34-24-34 was largely adopted by models across the world until slowly the consequences of such attempts started showing on their bodies. Dr Vinay Jadhav tells that most models were suffering from anorexia, bulimia, and cocaine or alcohol addiction to cope with their diets. Their diets included drinking juice as much as a cotton ball would soak between ramp breaks. Their bodies looked frail and pale as they walked the ramp in perfect attires but they were projected as epitome of beauty. Dr Vinay Jadhav says it is very unfortunate for the world to have such a weight stigma over healthy and fit bodies.

Dr Vinay Jadhav says that the popularity of size zero is proof that there is a fat stigma in the world. People who are healthy or overweight are treated with disrespect and are humiliated as compared to skinny people, if researches are to be believed. Once the concerns about the body and its functioning were realized post the death of two models in Paris and Uruguay respectively, modelling agencies across the world started publicly abhorring the size zero trend. They went on to let people know that they did not support it and banned models with size zero on their ramps.

Dr Vinay Jadhav states the six main reasons which will help you know that having a size zero body does nothing for you, but harms you instead:

  • 1.Women with size zero figures are not as attractive as women who are healthy and athletic if various polls and researches are to be believed. Dr VinayJadhav states that women who are trying to look ‘pretty’ by being skinny will actually be unappealing to men, both strangers and the ones they know. The skinny look is not as desirable as it seems to be.
  • 2.Psychological repercussions! Yes, Dr Vinay Jadhav says that girls with a size zero body are constantly asked questions like- ‘Do you eat?’ or ‘What happened to you, you are so skinny’. It is difficult for women to cope up with this and most of the times they are faced with jealousy as well as negative attitude from other girls. This degrades their confidence and affects their psychological health.
    Dr Vinay Jadhav also states that women do not have much choice in size zero clothing as compared to the clothing of normal women. This also upsets them because they believe they have sacrificed a lot to look skinny and clothes that make them look good should be available. Unavailability of clothes that fit and accentuate their skinny bodies can also cause depression.
  • 3.The dieting involved in achieving the size zero figure is almost like fasting for a prolonged period and surviving on crumbs of food or drops of juice. This dieting causes a very bad response to the health of the body, in turn affecting the immunity and vitality of the body.
  • 4.Dr Vinay Jadhav says that to combat the pains of dieting and cope up with the energy needs of the body or to feel satiated or full, women tend to drink alcohol or do drugs. This addiction causes further degradation of the health of the body. Though not all women do this, most women succumb to these addictions, especially models.
  • 5.Dr Vinay Jadhav mentions that many foreign universities have conducted surveys on the side effects of size zero on the health of women. He says that the research shows that women with size zero are more prone to bone problems that may lead to osteoporosis.
  • 6.Dr Vinay Jadhav explains that when women are subjected to images of skinny models or supermodels or actresses, they are motivated to follow quick yielding diet plans without much thought. Such a step can cause serious dieting disorders. Dr Vinay Jadhav recommends that anybody trying to lose weight should consult a doctor instead of attempting things on their own.

Dr Vinay Jadhav explains that the size zero should actually be the desired optimum figure of the body based on the height and weight than rather just a number. He goes on to state that beauty cannot be measured in numbers and should not be parameterized based on stigmatic trends like the size zero. Dr Vinay Jadhav says that body dysmorphic disorders, bulimia and anorexia are serious problems and need to be tackled wisely. People should not blindly follow trends without knowing the repercussions. He also wants women to know that they do not need to give up on their favourite foods or follow a strict diet and exercise crazy. All they need to do is follow a holistic weight management program and look healthy and fit instead of skinny and anorexic.

Dr Vinay Jadhav says that beauty in terms of figure is over-rated and mostly girls with a healthy, athletic look are found to be more attractive in a crowd than those who are skinny. This social unacceptance can lead to several psychological repercussions for the women. He thus advises women to feel beautiful in their bodies and help their bodies to remain healthy and fit. A disease and disorder free body is far more important than meeting mythical standards of beauty. Dr Vinay Jadhav urges women to not be a part of the fat stigma that the world has been directly or indirectly advocating.
